The Resistance Press: Art for the People Project

“With your donations, our future printmaking space will be named The Resistance Press.

The Resistance Press came to life when two printmakers from Oakland, California, talked about their visions of using art to heal their communities. This vision was inspired by the idea of serving our communities by providing images of hope during moments of exhaustion.

As artists our short-term goal is to serve Black and Brown communities by providing free packages of original prints made by local artists as well as art supplies to inspire the artist within the people who receive these kits. Our long-term goal is to create a space for printmakers to produce prints that represent the resilience of our own experiences as Black and Brown people. By providing access to art and art supplies, we hope to produce new artists and develop the family-like community of printmakers in the Oakland-Bay Area.

We are asking community members, artists, family, friends and allies to become stakeholders in the well-being of the community by donating money, visual arts (below the dimensions of 12inx12in) , and art supplies (all kinds for all abilities) to our project. Right now, there is a large need of monetary support to cover the costs of studio space, supplies and shipping costs.

OUR MINIMUM GOAL IS $8,000. In addition, we would like to fundraise $36,000 to pay the founders for a year's worth of labor that will go into this project.

Giving to the Art for The People project will support the wellness of local Black and brown communities by offering free access to Art Therapy Kits—a creative outlet as a form of healing.”
